Greeting from the President

GwenGreetings,

The members of Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. would like for you to get to know our great organization by perusing our web site. Omicron Omega chapter was established on October 24, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama. Omicron Omega holds the distinction and honor of being the first Graduate chapter chartered in the South Eastern Region.

The 2014-2018 International Program will focus on Launching New Dimensions of Service℠. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, through its 265,000 members and 986 chapters, will have an opportunity to address community needs with programs in five target areas: Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact.

Omicron Omega provides scholarships to high school and college students each year through fundraising and partnerships in the community. Collectively and individually, we have supported students by giving graciously to further their education.  Since 1924, we have provided thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students in high school and college.

Our partnerships with the American Heart Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Alzheimer’s Association, Dance Across Birmingham, Miles College, and other organizations have made a difference in the community. Funds donated have been utilized for education, community outreach and research.  In addition, our members have spent thousands of hours implementing our national and local programs.

If you are looking for a progressive and service oriented chapter, Omicron Omega is the chapter for you! If you are visiting or plan to relocate to the Magic City, we invite you to connect and bring your talents and skills to the sisterhood of Omicron Omega!

Again, welcome to our web site. We hope that the site is a valuable resource to you.

Dr. Gwendolyn Tilghman
President, Omicron Omega Chapter
