History of CEAF

The Cultural and Educational Advancement Foundation (CEAF) is a 501c3 non–profit organization designed to provide educational and cultural enrichment to the community and individuals by supporting charitable work and advocating a comprehensive quality of life for all people.

The organization was established in 2000 by members of the Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The Internal Revenue Service granted 501c3 status to CEAF in 2001. Because of the outstanding service and community leadership of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Foundation was developed in order to maximize and increase service projects, provide scholarships, create educational programs for underserved youth and meet the needs of the Greater Birmingham area.

The community and program support of the Foundation has been phenomenal throughout the years. The Board of Directors and members have reached out to the community by creating opportunities for schools to apply for mini grants that funded science initiatives to build capacity for student learning. Financial support to high school students through scholarships has been an integral part of our mission. Further programs and initiatives that have made an impact on the quality of life include but are not limited to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Outreach, Pathways, health and fitness.

Collaborative partnerships between other businesses and non-profits that embraced the cultural enrichment component have included such opportunities as Dance Across Birmingham and Southern Roots Academy of Fine Arts. CEAF was a title sponsor for the first Dance Across Birmingham Event in 2009. Our quest to increase partnerships and cultural activities for youth and adults has contributed to the overall success of the community.

The Foundation strives to meet and exceed our goals to educate, impact citizens in a positive manner and be a catalyst of change in our community. Our members are committed to the vision born more than a decade ago. With great anticipation, we are looking ahead to a future filled with promise.
